5 Reasons NOT to Change Careers

5 Reasons NOT to Change Careers

When is the best time to look for a new job?

As an executive recruiter I am asked this question more often as the year is progressing. From my experience one of the best time to look for a job is around the holidays.

Throughout the year the number of people looking new opportunities increases during the first part of the year and stays steady throughout the summer.

If you could pick a perfect time to search I would say the holidays work best because the number of people willing to make a change in very low. Reasons why may be obvious and some may not.

Obvious: Financially why interrupt your income unless you must. Travel plans are already made. Parties and festivities are already planned.

Not so obvious: People think they have to start during the holidays. Not always true because you can interview (less competition) and you can start during the first part of the year.

10 Reasons to Not Accept a Counter Offer

1. Think about where you work where it takes you wanting to resign before they want to pay you what you are worth.

2. Where is the money coming from? Most companies have strict guidelines on Compensation.

3. Your company will immediately start looking for another person at a cheaper price.

4. You have now made your employer aware that you are unhappy. From this day your loyalty will always be in question.

5. Promotion time comes around and your employer remembers who they think is loyal.

6. When times get tough your employer will begin to make cuts and you could be the first.

7. The reason that you were looking in the first place will repeat themselves in the future.

8. Statistics show that if you accept a counteroffer the probability of your voluntarily leaving or being let go within one year are greater than 90%.

9. A counter offer should be viewed as an insult.

10. When the word gets out your co-workers could begin to view you
differently.

Job Getting Secrets #8

You interview is over and now comes the waiting. One of the first thing you should do when you interview is complete now you need to send a thank you letter to the person or people that interviewed you.

In the age of technology it is easy to send an email. I recommend a hand written note. This shows the people that interviewed that you care enough to invest the time to write the note.

In the thank you letter you should cover:
  • Highlighted portions of the conversation that were valuable to the hiring manager.
  • Recap on the HOT Topics that were covered.
  • Share your level of enthusiasm and interest in joining the team.

Getting a Job Secret #7

If you want to make a good impression during the interview proces you then you need to be prepared.

I'm not just saying what you are going to say during the interview to sell yourself but just as important are the questions you are going to ask at the end of the interview:

How would you describe the company culture?

Can you tell me about the Day in the Life in this role?

What is the vision of the organization?

What are some of the biggest challenges I will face in this role?

Getting a job Secret #6

GREAT you followed my advice and have secured your first interview.

Here are a few things to remember when you are interviewing:

Tip #1 When you are being interviewed remember to only talk about your experiences that relate to the position that you are being interviewed for.

For Example if you did over a million dollars in Sales at your last company that is great. But more importantly you need to explain how you can do it at your new company.

Tip #2 When you are interviewing you need to Sell yourself. You need to always show the interviewing on how you add value to the organization. Remember people always care about What In It For Them (WIFM)

Hope these Tips Are Helpful!!!!
